Why Quran Life hides the verse before showing it

The verse stays hidden at the start because if you see it too early, your brain switches from memory retrieval to recognition, and that feels easier than it really is. The Anki cards therefore protect the hard part of memorization: the moment where you must pull the ayah out of your own memory.

Then, once revealing begins, the card still does not show the verse as one giant block. It reveals it in smaller contextual chunks. Those chunks use waqf-aware breaks where possible so the meaning stays intact, and then apply a 10-word maximum when a chunk is still too long, because revealing too many words at once makes grading easier in the wrong way.

So when a long verse keeps failing, the chunk structure also shows you roughly where it breaks — use that to decide whether the verse group needs re-splitting or the mindmap needs a stronger landmark at that spot.

What review order should you choose, and when?

Review order changes the feel of your session — and since reviews happen in Anki, the order is controlled in Anki's Deck Options, not in the plugin.

In general, the sensible default is to leave Anki's order alone: due cards first, new cards mixed in as configured. That gives the best balance between urgency and flow, and it is where new users should start.

Change it only for a specific friction. Want to stay inside one Surah's flow for a session? Use a filtered deck or a Browser preview limited to that Surah's tag. Want mindmap cards separate from verse work? Study the mindmap cards on their own day.

So the rule is simple: keep Anki's default order unless you feel a specific friction — then scope a session with a search or a filtered deck instead of reshuffling everything.

When should you expand a surah mindmap further?

A map does not need maximum detail from the beginning. Too much detail too early can make the map heavy and artificial.

The better approach is to start with enough structure to carry the flow, then add more detail where confusion, weak transitions, or repeated mistakes actually demand it.

That keeps the map alive and useful.

You are not decorating it for completeness. You are deepening it where memory proves it is needed.

Why I built Quran Life

I built Quran Life because I felt a gap between how serious hifdh actually is and how weak most digital tools for it felt.

Many tools help you repeat. Very few help you structure. Even fewer help you diagnose where memorization is breaking down and why.

Quran Life came from the belief that memorization should be treated as a system, not only as a motivation problem.

Structure, timing, and distinction all matter. I wanted a tool that respected that reality.

Why review should begin with the mindmap, not only the words

Many people think review means repeating the wording again and again until it feels stable. Quran Life starts from a different assumption: if the structure is weak, repetition alone will be fragile.

That is why every Surah also exports a mindmap card into Anki. Reviewing it restores the route before verse cards ask for perfect verbal recall.

This changes the feeling of review. Instead of starting from panic and blankness, you start from orientation. You remember where you are, what section comes next, and why the transition makes sense.

That makes the wording easier to carry.
