Anki Deck & Reviews

This app does not have a review queue inside it. Your reviews happen in Anki.

Where Everything Lives

  • Daily Portion tab — daily reading or listening. Passive, stays in the app.
  • Anki Deck tab — prepare. Choose a Surah, create or edit its mindmap, adjust splits, preview, then export.
  • Anki app — review. After import, Anki shows you cards when they are due.

Preparing in the Anki Deck Tab

For each Surah:

  1. Mindmap (required): Choose Create Mindmap or Edit Mindmap, draw your map, then Save. Only Surahs with a mindmap are exported — splits without a mindmap are skipped. View shows or hides a preview under the selector (hidden by default).
  2. Splits: Choose Define Splits, add or remove verses per group, then Save Splits. For short Surahs of 10 verses or fewer you get one automatic group covering the whole Surah; your saved splits replace it.
  3. Notes: Write in the Notes for this mindmap box. It saves automatically and is added to your cards.
  4. Deck name: the default is QuranLife::Review. You can rename it, but all searches in these guides assume the default — adjust them if you rename it.
  5. Export: Choose Export to Anki and wait for "Done". On desktop the file downloads in your browser; on mobile a copy is saved inside your vault (quran-life-deck.apkg) because mobile browsers often block the download.

A Surah is ready when it has a mindmap and its verses are split.

Importing — See Detailed Walkthrough

How to get the file into Anki (desktop and mobile), what to tick on the import screen, what happens on re-imports, and what to check afterwards — see:

→ Getting Started — Export and Import

Reviewing — See Detailed Walkthrough

Verse-group cards are interactive: you see the context, reveal hidden chunks one by one, then grade yourself. For the full step-by-step — what the front looks like, how to reveal with the Space key, when extra context appears, and how to grade — see:

→ How Reviews Work

After Review — Where to Fix Things

  • Difficult card (3 times Again): See Fixing Mistakes — find the suspended card, fix the map, put it back into rotation.
  • Similar-verse confusion: See Similar Verses — flag the card, spread the two verses apart on the map.
  • Split changed: See How Reviews Work — delete the outdated group card after re-importing.

Deck Statistics

Anki Deck → Deck Statistics shows how many Surahs and Parts have mindmaps, how many verse groups you have, and how many notes you wrote. See Tracking Progress for the difference between in-app stats and Anki stats.
